NEMDA named AKC Parent Club effective January 1 2009
In May 2008, the AKC named NEMDA as the AKC Parent Club to represent the Entlebucher Mountain Dog. The Entlebucher came eligible to compete in the AKC Miscellaneous Class
Effective January 1, 2009.
Although the American Kennel Club will assume the role of pedigree protection, NEMDA will continue as the Parent Breed club. NEMDA will continue in our dedicated role of breed protection; fulfilling all the responsibilities toward the Entlebucher breed as we have since our club's inception. The quality and care and health of our breed will remain our top priorities. We will continue to grow in our Entle owner outreach and education. We will continue to enjoy our wonderful companions.
In the AKC May 2008 Chairman's Report, Ronald H. Menaker (Chairman) is quoted;
"One often hears the saying 'form follows function. AKC Conformation events demonstrate form, while AKC Performance Events provide an opportunity for a breed to demonstrate their function. These two events, when taken together, enable breed supporters to maintain the true essence of the breed."
NEMDA eligible for full AKC breed recognition effective January 1, 2011
In February 2010, the AKC voted to give the Entlebucher full breed recognition beginning January 1, 2011. At that date, the Entlebucher will be eligible to compete in conformation in the Herding Group at AKC sanctioned shows and matches. Currently, the Entlebucher is eligible to compete in the Miscellaneous Conformation classes and is eligible to compete in all trial events such as Rally, Agility and Obedience.
