Important Definitions
Litter Registration: The number litters registered by each Breeder for the year. This number is both critical to understanding the population and very accurate as Breeders are highly motivated to register their litters. It is a selling point, required by BCOE and necessary to show or trial an individual puppy.
Litter Complement: The actual total number of puppies born in a year. Each Breeder, when registering their litter, must list the total number of puppies as well as setting out males and females. This is the other number critical to understanding the Entle population.
Registered Pups: The actual number of puppies from the Litter Complement that have their final registration - registered by their owners after taking their puppies home. This number is unpredictable and can happen over several years and therefore may change. Approximately 38% of all Litter Complements are never registered. Don't confuse the Litter Complement and Registered Pups.
An Interactive Population Study
The Link below is a Google Sheets graph and table that sets out possible population outcomes based on the number of litters born/year x the average number of pups in a litter (5.4 based on a 12 year average). The green highlighted box under the bar graph is a drop down menu allowing you to change the number of litters born. Once selected, that number carries forward through 2045. Feel free to change the number of litters and see the how it affects the total population!
