2010 Maifest in Leavenworth
There is a small village in Washington State that brings magic to a weekend in May each year…Leavenworth is a small community that turns into a resplendent Bavarian town, complete with the Maypole, Tyrolean dancers, Oompahpah bands, Swiss Alpenhorns and our wonderful Swiss dogs in a parade down Main Street.
 
Bill and Susan’s little Mysti had a mishap and had to go to the Vets for a wee patchup but came back the next day – the little trouper – and we decked her up with flowers for the parade.
This year I do believe we had 4 seasons in one day - frost, sunshine, rain, hail and snow on the pass….Yikes. But when it came to Parade time the sun shone on us and we enjoyed taking our dogs down a parade route that was lined with people. The dogs loved meeting the people on the roadside – giving kisses to the small kids and hoping that a lick of ice cream might come their way.
 
Then it was back to the Der Ritterof for a BBQ put on by the Berner club and some doggy games. This year we played Tic Tac Toe and the Berners won hands down but our little Entles combined forces with the Greater Swiss and other shorthairs and ended up victorious overall. Yeah the shorthairs ruled the day! A big thank you to David and Coral Denis for sending down all the prizes and everyone was a winner.
The 3 legged race was a hoot and Sassy was in both winning teams not to mention that she took 2 other firsts …what a girl!!
Maifest is always fun but the best part is always getting together with good friends and making new ones – sharing stories at happy hour is always a highlight. This year we had people come to see what an Entle was all about and they got a great introduction…Twins, Zack and Max Cervi-Skinner, fell in love with the dogs and hopefully we will see the family next year with a new little Entlebucher to join in the fun.
